Parents’ Peace of Mind
Last year at CES, the Alcatel OneTouch watch released a big wave by announcing its smartwatch. Child Tracker – CareTime Kids Watch which is the only wearable announcement for Alcatel’s 2016 CES. For busy moms and dads that want to focus on their children every hour, this GPS-enabled smartwatch can be a godsend.
Child tracking wearable devices is currently a significant business. Several models are available for sale at LG, while companies such as Filip 2 and SAFE Kids Paxie Band provide digital surveillance and fitness tracking for parents. However, Alcatel CareTime breaks the packaging trend of fitness and multi-connect functionality by offering basic 2G and GPS kits.
Simple Enough to Use
It all sounds like hardcore surveillance, but a spoonful of sugar should help Orwell’s tracking down. The 0.95-inch, 96 x 64-pixel resolution monochrome OLED sounds old, but it’s an ancient game boy or Tamagotchi way. Children should like it, especially when the animation icon on behalf of mom or dad pops up on the screen.

It also has some reasonably sophisticated features such as 2G networks, GPS and Wi-Fi. Of course, these features give parents more control over whom they talk. They also control the watch by initiating a call, displaying time or daily step goals (children need their workouts) or opening a contact list.
CareTime can only store 10 contact numbers and needs to be programmed by an adult. Children can make calls, but only approved contacts, which also need to be customized by parents.
Long-Lasting, Tough and Attractive
With the aesthetics of Fisher-Price, it’s evident that this is not a typical smartwatch. However, even if it looks like a child’s toy, it doesn’t look like one. It uses the same silicone rubber as countless active trackers and smartwatch bands.
This is a super simple setup designed for kids from 5 to 9 years old. The CareTime watch is available in two color combinations with a battery life of approximately four days. Smart watches and activity trackers for every purpose and each audience appear on CES. Fashionistas, gym mice and everyone in between have something to look forward to, including loving parents.
A Cloud Service for Safety
CareTime can also do many other useful things, such as sending an SOS alert to a parent’s phone, or pinging a parent when the child goes home. Its water resistance also reaches IP65, so children can freely play in the puddle on their way to school. Worried parents can view their children’s actions on a smartphone app like Google Maps and find precise icons with profile photos on city streets.
CareTime repeats design and usability options and weighs 1.41 ounces, making it very lightweight. It has a variety of child-friendly color combinations including blue and yellow, green and pink, and blue and red. No release or pricing information, but GPS, Wi-Fi and 2G connections may not appear.
