Introduction
Smartphones and tablets for Android – albeit similar, but still different devices and their requirements are also other. Many manufacturers have given up on the tablet mess without finding the right mix of features, price, and features – many, but not Huawei. The Chinese giant of the electronics industry did not curtail the development of such gadgets and regularly updates the range of models in different form factors and price niches. One of the latest additions, the Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 10, looks like a relatively affordable and versatile device.
Appearance
The design of the Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 10 did not require bold or unusual decisions from its creators. However, an ordinary appearance hides a thoughtful approach: despite the large diagonal, the gadget does not look bulky at all. The large display is framed by small bezels, which visually make it even larger, leaving the device’s overall size within comfortable limits. The possible colors are not striking in their variety. The frame around the screen in the first two cases is white, and the version with a gray body comes with a black front side.
The number of elements on the front is minimal: a front camera, a small area for a fingerprint scanner, an LED indicator, and a company logo. The backside is even more concise. It has only a slightly protruding camera and another manufacturer’s logo. On the right (in landscape orientation), there is a combination of a volume rocker and a power button. There is a SIM / microSDHC tray, a micro-USB connector, and a microphone hole on the left. There are decorative holes that hide as many as four speakers on the top and bottom faces, two for each. A small plastic insert next to each grill and a 3.5 mm audio jack also place on the top edge.
Ergonomics
Although the tablet looks quite sleek, the ten-inch screen makes the novelty a rather large device, which affects some scenarios of use. For example, holding the pill for a more or less long time with one hand in landscape orientation is almost impossible: because of the small frames, you cannot grip it more solidly without touching the screen. With a standard two-handed grip, everything falls into place, and there are no complaints about comfort. The device leaves a pleasant metallic coolness in the hands. Its small thickness is also pleasing, and the fingerprint scanner works quickly and accurately. Moreover, the function of navigating the interface can assign to the touch key. In practice, however, familiar on-screen controls are more convenient.
Screen
The Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 10 uses an IPS-matrix with a diagonal of 10.1 inches and a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. The pixel density with this ratio is not a record – 224 PPI, and with great scientific interest, you can examine individual pixels from a close distance. The picture is generally amiable. Viewing angles are close to maximum, so watching a movie or video on YouTube with a small company is quite possible. Huawei has not forgotten about the automatic adjustment of the backlight level. In most cases, it works adequately. Color reproduction will delight lovers of natural colors. If the factory settings do not suit something, there is a standard for current Huawei devices to fine-tune the color temperature. The screen cover with a high-quality oleophobic layer. The finger glides smoothly, and fingerprints and streaks that inevitably appear during use removed without problems.
Interface
The new Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 10 is running Android 7 with a proprietary shell EMUI 5.1. It practically does not differ from the version installed on Huawei and Honor smartphones, only with some amendments for the tablet form factor and a larger screen. For example, the on-screen navigation keys can quickly move from one edge of the screen to the other or the center with simple swipes in the appropriate direction. It is very convenient in practice since you do not have to intercept a rather large tablet every time. The proprietary features please the ability to choose the style of displaying the desktop. You can choose between the classic option with a separate menu of installed applications and the usual for iOS and many Android shells with one touch in the settings. All installed programs display on the home screens.
The set of pre-installed applications is quite large. In addition to the standard ones, these are software packages from Yandex and Microsoft, and there are two browsers: Google Chrome and Opera, and much of this software abundance can remove without problems. Among the crucial programs that come ‘out of the box,’ we note the ‘Phone Manager,’ which focuses on managing various aspects – from monitoring battery consumption to searching for viruses. With a SIM card inserted, the tablet can use for traditional mobile communications. If you have to give the device to children or strangers, a special ‘Children’s Mode’ will come in handy – in it, you can configure restrictions on the launch of some applications, online payments, and so on. In place, and the standard feature of the 7th version of Android – split-screen. With a display of this size, it turns out to be very convenient to use – it is quite possible to watch a video out of the corner of your eye and, at the same time, view the latest news in the feed.
Apparatus in operation
The Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 10 is powered by an entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 chip, which combines eight energy-efficient Cortex-A53 cores and Adreno 505 graphics. RAM in any version of the device is 3 GB, but the built-in storage can either 16 or 32 GB. Simultaneously, the difference in the performance price is only a thousand rubles, so when buying, you should think carefully whether such savings will justify itself. With such, not the most advanced ‘filling,’ the tablet works very well. The interface works most of the time smoothly, without friezes and animation delays. One of the few exceptions is the transition from landscape to portrait and vice versa: sometimes this happens with a noticeable hitch. In addition, there were no complaints during the testing. Applications start quickly, and to a fair amount of RAM, you can keep several programs open at once.
Camera
The photo part of the Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 10 looks good by tablet standards, but precisely by tablet standards. Compared to smartphones, even in the middle segment, everything is too simple. The main camera has a resolution of eight mp, an aperture of f / 2.0, and an autofocus system. In good light, the pictures are quite decent in the daytime—good attention to detail, accurate white balance. Apart from the relatively low resolution, there is nothing to complain about, given the fact that we are talking about a tablet, and even not the most expensive one. In complex scenes with sharp changes in brightness, the HDR function will come in handy – its implementation in the Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 10 does not frustrate. If you remember to turn it on at the right time, you can noticeably tighten up the picture’s details.
