Introduction
The Sony VPL-HW45ES projector is Sony’s most affordable SXRD projector and intended to replace the excellent VPL-HW40ES projector and sit below the VPL-HW65ES in the lineup. The Sony VPL-HW45ES projector has the same design as the two mentioned models and the same chassis and appearance. However, it equips with a modified filling, which has improved the black level and the overall picture quality.
Appearance
The optical system in the Sony VPL-HW45ES centered with the terminal block at the bottom left. The device’s dimensions are 407 x 179 x 463 mm, and its weight is about 9 kg. The Sony VPL-HW45ES projector lens equips with plastic rings for manual adjustment of focus and image size – thus, the owners of Scope screens will not be able to use the image size’s memory function. In the end, we conduct to get a good focus on almost the entire screen’s surface, except for one corner, where the picture was slightly blurry.
There are two rings above the lens for adjusting the vertical and horizontal image shifts. This manual adjustment works as expected. However, the lens under its weight can shift over time, requiring additional modification. In addition, vertical alignment presents further difficulty due to lens creeps during movement. There are airways on either side of the lens, and on the left side of the case, there are controls that come in handy in the absence of remote control. The rest of the body is free from any frills, and in general, the Sony VPL-HW45ES projector has a very compact design. The Sony VPL-HW45ES ‘vents located at the front of the case, so the Sony VPL-HW45ES projector can position close to the back of a room or in blind recesses without fear of overheating. The right solution for small rooms.
Remote Control
The remote control is traditionally convenient, with a thoughtful arrangement of buttons, easy access to any of them, and backlighting for use in darkened rooms. Sony knows a thing or two about remote controls, and even this inexpensive model is flawless. The sizeable remote control is comfortable and weighty in hand and makes a pleasant impression with the craft. Possibly the only drawback here is that you need to press a separate button to turn on the backlight – it would be better if it worked when you press any key. And at the same time, this button does not glow in the dark.
Image Technology
The Sony VPL-HW45ES is an SXRD home theater Sony VPL-HW45ES projector with a Full HD 1920 x 1080 picture resolution. It cannot receive 4K UHD signals and cannot display UHD Blu-ray pictures. Simultaneously, the device equips with an excellent processor and advanced Sony technologies for upscaling video with lower resolution, such as sports TV broadcasts. In Eco-mode, Sony claims the backlight runtime of 6000 hours, and the brightness of the image in normal mode is 1800 Lumens according to the passport data.
However, in reality, once installed in the room and calibrated (and if done correctly) at best, you will get a brightness of about 850/900 Lumens. It is enough to create a cinematic image in a room with moderately-light walls and low lighting levels. When watching 3D, you can turn on the illumination mode to brighten. When installed Eco, the Sony VPL-HW45ES projector is practically inaudible from a distance of one and a half meters. In the high brightness mode, the noise increases by about 22 dB, that is, it becomes a little more noticeable.
