introintro

Introduction

The projection system of the new product consists of a single-chip DLP matrix with a physical resolution of 854 × 480 pixels. And an LED module with three LED assemblies of red, blue, and green glow is used as a backlight. This feature allows the user to forget about using a classic rotating filter and, in theory, provides more accurate color reproduction.

Image Technology

The compactness and lightness of the Acer C101i, coupled with a built-in battery and wifi adapter, provide unrivaled mobility and ease of installation – this is an undeniable fact. In turn, one of these advantages creates a problem when connecting an HDMI cable – the device requires a hard fix, just at least use double-sided adhesive tape. Perhaps No one finds fault, and many do not encounter this, but the author’s case (watching a movie by installing the Acer C101i on a chair and connecting a PC cable to it) is an example of the opposite.

The contrast level of 1200: 1 (the real value is undoubtedly much lower) does not tell us about the contrast of the resulting image. To visually increase it, Acer engineers increased the saturation of most colors and set the gamma to 2.4-2, 6. The picture looks slightly acidic, with shadows killed, and many halftones merge. Gradients, as the user knows, are also not very smooth. The color rendition of the Acer C101i cannot be adjusted, and the user should remember this. The main advantage of ‘LED technology’ is the resource of work. For the hero of the review, it is declared at the level of 20,000 hours in standard operation and up to 30,000 hours in the Eco mode. Almost all manufacturers of projectors with LEDs speak about such numbers, and these numbers are 8-10 times more than those of tube counterparts. Considering the scope and probable frequency of application of C101i, No one can say that the projector will last forever – the user will forget about it sooner than it will fail.

Design

It will be much more critical for the latter to know that at a distance of 60 cm from the projector to the working surface, the projected image’s diagonal will be 50.6 cm (20 inches 16: 9 format). By moving the C101i 3 meters apart, the user can get a picture with a screen diagonal of ~ 100 inches. However, this is not the limit – no one bothers to use the projector at an even greater distance, ensuring the maximum immersion effect, letting it forget about the brightness of the picture and, of course, its sharpness.

Software

The entire further setup process can carry out exclusively if the user has a smartphone or tablet based on Android or iOS with EZCast installed from a third-party developer known in the field. Through the application, the user can broadcast video, photos to the projector, display the image from the device’s camera. The speed, stability, and hassle-free operation of various program functions depending on the software version leave much to desire. Still, these accusations have nothing to do with Acer C101i itself.

Management & Setup

The projector turned on by holding the corresponding key. The C101i reaches the operating mode in about 20-30 seconds, but it turns off almost instantly, although the cooling fan can work for some more time. The user can quickly go to sleep with a single press of the power button. The three remaining keys allow the user to change the volume level of the built-in speaker system and make a quick transition from the maximum brightness mode to ‘Eco’ (75 ANSI-lumens) and vice versa.

A few seconds after turning on, the built-in cooling fan, accelerates to its maximum and continues to maintain such speed until it switches to the Eco mode with reduced brightness. The noise level in both modes. No one can’t call annoying, but the user will hear the cooling system in any case. The built-in speaker will support the sound path with a power of 1 W, but if this is not enough (the way it will be), then the 3.5 mm audio output to the projector, the user can connect headphones or even an external speaker system. Directly related to the ‘always with you’ class of projectors, the C101i is nevertheless not too limited in connection types, which is often due to the small size of such devices. The user can use either a wired HDMI or wireless wifi interface. The HDMI output (a rarity) allows the user to connect a desktop monitor or even a TV to the projector.
