The French company Parrot produces modern, functional, stylish quadrocopters. The company introduced its first drone in 2010 and since then they have become one of the most popular and famous in the field of aircraft modeling. Quadrocopter Parrot Bebop 2 Drone improved flight parameters, longer battery life, more modern camera and smaller body size. Build quality Bebop 2 at a very high level, high-quality plastic, you immediately understand that you have a high-tech product in your hands. Quad is aimed at a wide audience of users without reference to experience. In other words, even those who have never held a control panel in their hands will be able to master the piloting of Bebop 2. The whole process of operating a quadrocopter is intuitive and simple.
Externally, the quadrocopter looks very modern, it is immediately clear that we have a high-tech device. It is produced in two colors: black with a white insert and black with a red insert. Parrot Bebop 2 Drone has a very high build quality. Its body is made in the form of a frame made of durable plastic with legs that are reinforced with stiffening ribs. The legs are separate screwed parts. This is very convenient, because in the event of a breakdown, you will not need to buy an expensive frame, but buy a new set of legs.
On the frame is the fuselage, which houses the motherboard with a removable navigation module. The board is protected by a polymer shell, which is able to restore its original shape after an impact. Also, the quadrocopter housing includes a camera, which is built at an angle to a separate unit in the front of the fuselage. The block is made of modern material – polypropylene, which is widely used in aircraft modeling due to its strength, elasticity, ability to not absorb moisture and not crumble.
Onboard the Parrot Bebop 2 Drone there is a camera built-in at an angle to the polypropylene box of 14MP with digital 3-axis stabilization. The all-new wide-angle Fisheye lens has truly improved shooting in low light conditions. The camera shoots video in 1920 × 1080p resolution at 30 frames/s in H.264 format, as well as photos in resolution: 4096 × 3072 in formats: JPEG/RAW/DNG.
There is no remote control as standard; the control is done via a Wi-Fi channel through a special application on a FreeFlight 3 or FreeFlight Pro smartphone. These versions are available for iOS and Android. Control signals are transmitted at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, the video stream is broadcast at a frequency of 5 GHz. When using a smartphone, the maximum flight range is 300 meters. Using the Skycontroller 2 remote control significantly expands the control capabilities of the device and allows you to increase the flight range to two kilometers.
Software & Modes
Onboard the quadcopter Parrot Bebop Drone 2 installed 2-core Parrot P7 processor with a quad-core graphics core. The work is done under the control of OS Linux software. Sources are available on the manufacturer’s official website, firmware is updated continuously. The Follow Me function was not available for Parrot Bebop 2 Drone. The developers upgraded the FreeFlight 3 mobile application to FreeFlight Pro. Please select one of the flight modes on the screen of the paired gadget, determine the object and the drone will take its movement in accordance with the chosen settings. A total of 5 modes are available:
1.) Auto Follow – using a completely new tracking technology, based on the GPS positioning of the smartphone and visual recognition, with high accuracy ensures the capture of the object throughout the passage.
2.) Climbing – in this mode, the drone analyzing the barometric data of the paired smartphone will obediently capture the vertical ascent of the object. The mode is relevant for climbers.
3.) Perfect side – choose on which side of the object it is better to shoot and the drone will take unique shots with its participation.
4.) Auto Framing – the drone uses a unique visual recognition algorithm to hold the object in the center of the frame.
5.) Magic drones – you have 4 options for taking a selfie: Orbit (shooting 360° around the subject)/Boomerang (shooting in front, behind and opposite the item)/Parabola (shooting in an arc above the item)/Zenith (shooting the subject from top to bottom and bottom to top).
The battery of the Parrot Bebop 2 deserve special attention 3S 11.1V 2700mAh LiPo. With 25 minutes of flight declared by the manufacturer, in practice with the moderate wind with gusts (up to 10m/s) in a quiet piloting mode, the drone showed 40 minutes of flight (battery charge at the beginning of the test – 100%, at the end – 5% with warning and auto return ).
Bebop 2 brushless motors, proprietary by Parrot CA. They have proven themselves perfectly in the first version of Parrot Bebop. Especially for the second generation drone, the power plant has undergone refinement, thereby allowing an order of magnitude to improve the already demonstrative flight characteristics.
